The National Guard Begins Clearing and Removing Snow Masses in High-Risk Areas

In March and April, Kazakhstan is expected to experience warm weather and heavy precipitation, increasing the risk of flooding in several regions of the country. According to the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, high-risk areas include the Aktobe, Kostanay, Karaganda, Akmola, North Kazakhstan, East Kazakhstan regions, as well as the Ulytau and Abai regions. In response, at the direction of Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, preventive measures are being carried out nationwide to minimize the impact of potential floods.

Servicemen of the National Guard, together with local executive authorities, are actively involved in clearing and containing snow masses, as well as in strengthening riverbanks.

For example, in the village of Talapker in the Tselinograd district, servicemen from military unit 5573 of the National Guard of Kazakhstan (Astana) have been deployed to prevent flooding. They have prepared over 1,300 sandbags to reinforce the shoreline. Additionally, 60 cadets from the National Guard Academy are dispatched daily to assist in preventive efforts in the villages of Teplichnoye, Pribrezhnoe, and Beskol. To date, cadets have prepared more than 4,000 sandbags, which have been placed in reinforced areas.

Meanwhile, about 100 personnel from military unit 5517 are engaged daily in clearing drainage channels to ensure the unobstructed flow of meltwater in the city of Uralsk.

Overall, large-scale efforts are underway in various settlements to remove snow and prepare water passageways for the flood season, with special equipment in operation. Canals, ditches, bridges, and drainage structures are also being cleaned.

Preventive measures continue to minimize the potential impact of spring floods and ensure public safety.
