Up to 10,000 National Guard Servicemen Ready to Assist in Flood Relief Efforts

Every year, certain regions of Kazakhstan face the risk of flooding. Drawing on past experience, government and security agencies proactively prepare by implementing preventive measures, such as reinforcing protective barriers and strengthening shorelines. The National Guard of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan, which has proven its capabilities in past spring flood seasons, remains ready to assist civilians.

The National Guard's participation in emergency response efforts for natural and man-made disasters is carried out in accordance with current legislation, regulations, instructions, orders, and civil protection plans.

During flood response operations, up to 1,600 servicemen and more than 60 units of equipment are initially deployed from military operational reserves. If the situation worsens, reinforcements of up to 10,000 personnel and more than 350 units of equipment can be mobilized.

In addition, National Guard aviation can deploy Y8F200W aircraft and Mi-171E helicopters for emergency response. In 2024 alone, National Guard aircraft completed 46 flights, while helicopters conducted 115 sorties in disaster zones.

Between March and June 2024, the National Guard deployed approximately 3,500 servicemen and over 150 units of vehicles and special equipment for flood control measures. As a result:

More than 5,500 people were evacuated, including 501 airlifted by aviation.

About 3,000 tons of humanitarian aid were loaded and unloaded.

Over 15,000 meters of irrigation canals were cleared.

More than 2 million sandbags were prepared and laid.

Over 5,500 tons of soil were transported for shoreline reinforcement.

Approximately 130,000 meters of shoreline fortifications were constructed.

The National Guard continues to play a vital role in ensuring public safety and minimizing damage during natural disasters.
