Kazakh Boxers Triumph at Strandja Cup

The international Strandja Cup boxing tournament has concluded in Sofia, Bulgaria, with Kazakhstan’s men's national team claiming five gold medals and securing first place in the overall standings. In total, Kazakh boxers delivered an outstanding performance, winning five gold, nine silver, and four bronze medals.

National Guard servicemen played a key role in this success.
Lieutenant Abylaikhan Zhussupov, a senior sports instructor at the National Guard Sports Training Center, won gold in the 71 kg weight category. He is a Master of Sports of International Class, a member of the "Dynamo" sports club of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan, a three-time World Championship medalist, and a two-time Olympian.

"For me, it is a great honor to bring gold to Kazakhstan at such a prestigious tournament. This victory is not just my personal achievement but also the result of strong support. I would like to express my gratitude to the National Guard High Command for the opportunity to represent our country on the world stage and for providing the necessary conditions for preparation. This motivates me to strive for new victories," said the champion.

In the 54 kg weight category, Lieutenant Timur Kabdeshov, also a senior sports instructor at the National Guard Sports Training Center, won a silver medal. In the semifinals, he faced Christopher Hippocrate from France, who had sensationally defeated Olympic champion Hasanboy Dusmatov from Uzbekistan. Kabdeshov won by points but later lost in the final to Uzbek boxer Shakhzod Muzaffarov.

Uzbekistan took second place in the overall standings with five gold, one silver, and two bronze medals, while Bulgaria finished third with two gold and three bronze medals.

Kazakhstan’s team also set a new national record for the number of medals won at the Strandja Cup, surpassing the previous best result from 2022, when the team earned two gold, two silver, and five bronze medals.
