Attempts to Smuggle 140 Mobile Phones into Penal Institutions Prevented by Guards Since the Beginning of the Year

Service members of the Law Enforcement Troops, in cooperation with officers of the penal system, continue their efforts to prevent the smuggling and transfer of prohibited items into institutions.

Guards and patrol units of the National Guard of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan are tasked with securing penal institutions. Every day, nearly 2,000 service members are deployed to ensure security and monitor the behavior of inmates.

Notably, this year, guard personnel and patrol units have recorded 20 incidents of prohibited items being thrown over institutional fences.

As a result of control and oversight operations, military personnel have detected and confiscated 140 mobile phones, 152 SIM cards, 45 sharp objects, over 420 grams of marijuana, and 20 liters of alcohol-containing liquids. Seventeen violators have been apprehended and handed over to the investigative and operational group.

It is important to note that maintaining law and order in penal institutions remains one of the National Guard’s top priorities.
