Triumphant Return: Kazakhstan’s Asian Short Track Champions Arrive in Astana

The heroes of the 2025 Asian Games—the Kazakhstan men’s short track relay team, who clinched the gold medal, were warmly welcomed at Astana International Airport.

Among the champions is Abzal Azhgaliyev, a member of the National Guard Sports Team of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan and an international-class master of sports.

The athletes were greeted on the airport tarmac by family, friends, fans, the National Guard command, and representatives from Astana's Department of Sports and Tourism. The ceremonial reception was filled with applause, congratulations, and words of gratitude.

Abzal Azhgaliyev and his teammates—Denis Nikisha, Adil Galiakhmetov, Gleb Ivchenko, Mersaid Zhaxybaev, and Aibek Nasen—achieved a historic breakthrough, leaving behind favorites from Japan and China. South Korea, traditionally dominant in this sport, received a penalty and was eliminated from the medal race.

Speaking to journalists, Abzal Azhgaliyev emphasized that this victory was the result of years of hard work and the unwavering support of fans.

“We knew it would be a tough battle, but our team was determined to achieve the maximum result. We are proud that Kazakhstan has won its first-ever short track gold at the Asian Games!” said the champion.

The National Guard of Kazakhstan expressed immense pride in its athlete, who not only brings glory to the country but also inspires young generations with his achievements.
