In Ust-Kamenogorsk, servicemen of military unit 6699 of the "Shyǵys" Regional Command of the National Guard of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, together with officers of the Department of the Penal Correction System (DUIS), demonstrated high vigilance during service and successfully prevented two attempts to smuggle and deliver prohibited communication devices into correctional institutions.
The first attempt occurred during a routine inspection of vehicles arriving at a guarded correctional facility. The transport inspection group was checking a GAZelle vehicle delivering equipment for a production workshop. During the inspection, the guardsmen used a metal detector, which reacted to the presence of foreign metallic objects.
“While examining the truck, our attention was drawn to several sewing machines in the cargo area. Checking their technical condition, we noticed signs that the motor compartments had been tampered with. After disassembling one of the machines, we found communication devices cleverly hidden inside,” said Junior Sergeant Rustem Kabdiev, head of the inspection group.
As a result of a thorough search, the guardsmen seized 8 mobile phones, 7 SIM cards, and 4 charging devices. All confiscated items were handed over to the facility’s administration for further investigation. Law enforcement authorities are conducting an inquiry into the incident.
The second case occurred in the inspection room of another correctional facility. Inspection team controllers Corporal Aynaz Kasymkhanova and Private Arman Rakhatov, together with duty inspector Private Doszhan Adambek, discovered an attempt to covertly deliver a mobile phone during a personal search of a visitor who came for a short meeting with an inmate.
During the inspection, the guardsmen found and seized a VIVO mobile phone without an IMEI code and a USB cable wrapped in tape. The violator intended to hand over these items to the convicted individual. The smartphone was confiscated, and an operational-investigation team was called to handle the case.
It should be noted that the protection of facilities within the penal correction system is one of the priority missions of the National Guard of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Every day, about one thousand guardsmen ensure security, preventing the smuggling and transfer of prohibited items into institutions — thereby strengthening law and order while maintaining a high level of discipline and control.
