An Artistic Soldier in the Army: National Guardsman Aqadil Askhanuly Boosts Morale with His Bayan

The army is a place defined by strict discipline. Yet, even in such an environment, there are those who keep the flame of creativity alive. One of them is Private Aqadil Askhanuly, a service vehicle driver with military unit 6698 of the National Guard of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, stationed in the city of Shymkent.

After joining the ranks of the law enforcement troops, Aqadil completed his military driver training course. Today, he serves as the driver of a command and staff vehicle in the 4th separate rifle company.

Aqadil is skilled in playing the bayan (a type of accordion), the dombra, and the piano. In his free time, he picks up his bayan and lifts the spirits of his fellow soldiers.

“My parents are both musically inclined, so my love for music runs in my blood. I never part with my bayan—I even brought it with me to the army. It’s my favorite instrument. It brings peace to my soul and helps me relax. Sometimes, I perform songs with the bayan at events in the unit,” shares Private Aqadil Askhanuly.

It’s worth noting that the service members of military unit 6698 are entrusted with vital duties, including guarding correctional institutions, maintaining order among inmates, and escorting prisoners across the Turkistan Region and the city of Shymkent.
