In honor of the 30th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kazakh climber and cultural activist Kayyrbek Alibek climbed the text of the country's Basic Law to the top of Island Peak (6180 m) in the Himalayas.

The ascent was part of his unique project “Dombra on the Summits of the World”, realized within the framework of the international initiative “7 Summits of the World”. The project is aimed at popularizing Kazakh culture, including national music played on the dombra, so that it could be included in the Guinness Book of Records as a musical instrument that has conquered the highest peaks of the world.

The expedition to Island Peak lasted 15 days and was organized on the initiative of the climber, for whom this ascent became not only a sporting achievement, but also a confirmation of his patriotism and deep civic responsibility. The climber appealed to the Constitutional Court with a proposal to raise to the top the text of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan as a symbol of respect of Kazakhstanis to the Basic Law of the country. The Constitutional Court supported his initiative by providing an official copy of the text of the Constitution. Alibek passed through all the trials of not only altitude but also weather conditions to solemnly raise the Constitution on one of the most famous Himalayan peaks.

“For me, the Constitution symbolizes the pinnacle of all laws. It is not just a document, but a spiritual pillar and a symbol of our unity, our rights and freedoms. Climbing with the Basic Law and the dombra, I felt not heaviness but strength. In the harsh conditions of the expedition, they increased my motivation and strengthened my spirit. I am proud that it was with these symbols of Kazakhstan that I managed to conquer the summit of Island Peak,” said Alibek.

This historic ascent was also accompanied by the performance at the foot of Everest of Nurgisa Tlendiev's “Alqisa” cue in honor of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great Kazakh composer.

Musical performances of the climber in mountain camps and nearby Nepali villages evoked a lively response from people, turning the expedition into a dialog of national cultures. Dombra and Constitution became symbols of peace, openness and national dignity of Kazakhstan.

Kayyrbek Alibek's project is non-commercial and serves to strengthen international cultural diplomacy.
