The rule of law plays a key role on the road to democracy and the effective protection of human rights

The Chairperson of the Constitutional Court Elvira Azimova met with the Acting UN Resident Coordinator Stephen O'Malley and Head of the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator Kurtmolla Abdulganiev.
During the meeting Elvira Azimova told the guests about the activities of the Constitutional Court, which was reconstituted following the results of the republican referendum on constitutional amendments in June 2022.
She noted the relevance of constitutional control in ensuring law and order in the country and underlined the guiding principle of the Constitutional Court's work - the supremacy of the Constitution and its role as the Basic Law of the country, which enshrines the constitutional guarantees of human rights and freedoms, the basic obligations of the State to protect them, as well as the democratic conditions of public administration.

Stephen O'Malley praised Kazakhstan's decision in re-establishing the Constitutional Court on the path to democracy through the rule of law and with the expectations of citizens in mind.
As a result of the meeting, agreements were reached on cooperation in projects to raise the legal awareness of citizens and strengthen the competence of state bodies within the framework of the programme of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the UN development system.
