The Chairperson of the Constitutional Court Ms. Elvira Azimova met with the OSCE Chair-in-Office, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade of Malta H.E. Dr Ian Borg.
During the meeting the sides discussed key issues of rule of law and human rights agenda, implementation of international human rights standards, as well as study of recommendations of international and regional organizations, including OSCE and the ways of further cooperation with them.
Ms. Elvira Azimova informed about the activities of the Constitutional Court from January 2023 and the state of constitutional legality in the country. She noted the Address of the Constitutional Court on the State of Constitutional Legality in the country, presented at the Joint Session of the Parliament Chambers of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Every year the body of constitutional control presents this document to the legislator, in which, along with presenting the results of the verification of compliance with the Constitution of the provisions of specific laws and other normative legal acts, also presents recommendations to ensure constitutional legality by taking measures within the framework of its rule-making activities.
During the meeting, Ms. Azimova also shared about a joint social project with the OSCE Programme Office in Astana. The joint social project aims to ensure accessibility to the text of the country's Basic Law, amended by the results of the 2021 national referendum, by publishing it in Braille for people with severe visual impairments and blindness. Braille editions of the Constitution have been given to special educational institutions and institutions of the library system.
‘This initiative emphasizes Kazakhstan's commitment to respect for human rights and equal access to legal information, encourages continued implementation of commitments and co-operation, including within the OSCE,’ – said the CC Chairperson.
