Strong advocacy is a basis of the legal State

On October 6, 2023, Astana hosted the VII International Forum of Lawyers on the theme «Strong advocacy is a basis of the legal State», held by the Kazakh bar community.

The Forum was attended by representatives of the Kazakh and international legal community, and representatives of state authorities. Among representatives of regional and international law communities - the International Bar Association/IBA, the American Bar Association/ABA, the Legal Association of the Asia-Pacific region, as well as the law communities of Azerbaijan, Germany, Georgia, Türkiye, Kyrgyzstan, Singapore, Uzbekistan - acted as international speakers.

Elvira Azimova, the Chairman of the Constitutional Court, by welcoming guests of the Forum, noted that the protection by lawyers of the rights of their clients and defense of the interests of justice overall contribute to the protection of human rights and freedoms. She stressed that it is important to preserve adherence to the independence of the profession, which should be based on fairness before the law and clients.

The International forum served as a platform for participants' discussion, where they also shared their positive experience in ensuring the professional level of defense, consolidating the efforts of lawyers to strengthen the principle of independence of the bar.

It should be noted that since the beginning of 2023, lawyers and legal consultants have been actively representing the interests of citizens applying to the Constitutional Court. Lawyers represent the interests of citizens in 11 appeals out of 32 proceedings in which the Constitutional Court checked for compliance with the Constitution of Kazakhstan with the norms of laws and other regulatory legal acts.
