On the meeting of the Chairperson of the Constitutional Court with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights

Elvira Azimova met with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk during his working visit to Kazakhstan and First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Kairat Umarov.

The Chairperson spoke about tasks and activities of the Constitutional Court as well as its role in ensuring human rights protection, the rule of law and the stability of the constitutional and legal system.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged opinions on implementation of Kazakhstan’s commitments, carried out reforms in our country, zero tolerance for torture and domestic violence, the implementation of government plans in the field of human rights as well as civil society development. 

Elvira Azimova noted about citizens’ right to apply to the Kazakh Constitutional Court and the opportunity to represent their interests by authorized persons from non-profit organizations, legal consultants and lawyers.
