The Conference of Constitutional Jurisdictions of the Members States of the Organization of Turkic States was established

Chairman of the Constitutional Council Kairat Mami within the framework of the Сonference dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Constitutional Court of Turkey, participated in the First Meeting of the Heads and Representatives of the Constitutional Jurisdictions of the Member States of the Organization of Turkic States.

The conference was attended by representatives of constitutional review bodies of the European, Asian and African regions.

Addressing the organizers and participants of the conference, Kairat Mami noted that over the years the Constitutional Court of Turkey has become an authoritative body standing guard over the Basic Law and human rights. "Cooperation with the Constitutional Court of Turkey is based on professional principles and friendship of our peoples and states. Today's forum is a platform for discussing topical issues of the impact of the interpretation of the Constitution and laws on determining the scope of fundamental rights and freedoms, the impact of international law in this area, the peculiarities and differences between constitutional and legal interpretation," emphasized Kairat Mami. He also informed the forum participants about the ongoing constitutional reform in the country, within the framework of which the Constitutional Council will be transformed into a Constitutional Court with an expanded list of subjects of appeal.  

Following meeting, the Istanbul Declaration on the establishment of the Conference of Constitutional Jurisdictions of the Member States of the Organization of Turkic States (Türk-Ay) was adopted. The main purpose of creation of this independent forum is a more effective exchange of views and experience on constitutional legal proceedings and the promotion of the rule of law and human rights in the countries of the Turkic world.

Kairat Mami noted that this structure will allow to effectively use the potential of the Turkic world to ensure the supremacy of the constitutions of our countries.
