The final stage of the republican competition “Amicus Curiae Challenge” was held at the Constitutional Court among students of law faculties from higher education institutions in Astana, Almaty, Shymkent, Turkestan, and other regions.

The competition is implemented within the framework of the project “The Supremacy of the Constitution: Law, Legality, Responsibility,” carried out by the Constitutional Court in partnership with the Supreme Court, the Public Association “Legal Center of Women’s Initiatives ‘Sana Sezim,’” and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Opening the event, the Chair of the Constitutional Court, Elvira Azimova, thanked the partners for supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening legal culture and emphasized the importance of the amicus curiae institution, noting the need to develop practical skills for its application among future lawyers.

Welcoming remarks were also delivered by the Head of Mission of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Kazakhstan, Nico Schermers, the representative of the OSCE Programme Office in Astana, Nicholas Mazik, and the representative of the NGO “Sana Sezim,” Shakhnoza Khasanova.

Within the competition, teams competed in developing and presenting an amicus curiae position on a selected case.

Winners received diplomas, certificates, as well as letters confirming readiness to accept them for professional internships.
