On the prevention of tuberculosis

In the Karaganda region for 8 months of 2020, compared with the same period last year, the incidence of tuberculosis in the population was reduced by 30.0%, including the respiratory system by 26.2% and the infectious form by 27.2%.

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease, a very common disease that has long been considered incurable. Today, tuberculosis is curable thanks to the achievements of medical science. But, tuberculosis has not been defeated, moreover, due to the emergence of new strains (that is, new variants of the old microbe), tuberculosis is again becoming a dangerous and socially significant disease.

The older a person is, the more likely they are to contract and develop tuberculosis.

Preventive measures and awareness of the population about preventive measures help to reduce the number of morbidity by an average of 2 times.

All preventive measures are aimed at detecting infection or disease at an early stage in order to avoid the development of tuberculosis. Preventive measures against tuberculosis, which are carried out free of charge, are as follows:

- increasing immunity through vaccination and revaccination of BCG, based on the introduction into the body of weakened microbacteria of tuberculosis;

- early detection of tuberculosis by the method of fluorographic research and the Mantoux reaction.

The person himself, in turn, must observe the following rules:

- undergo regular fluorographic examination at least once a year. Contrary to popular belief, the radiation dose received on fluorography is not so dangerous, and certainly not more harmful than the consequences of tuberculosis;

- on the recommendation of a medical worker, ensure timely vaccination and revaccination of the child against tuberculosis;

- lead a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet and regular physical activity;

-to eat foods rich in vitamins and microelements;

- do not forget about the rules of personal hygiene, keeping the home and workplace clean;

- do not smoke or drink alcohol. Any adverse dependence weakens the immune system and increases the risk of morbidity.

-if you have or suspect the development of tuberculosis, you should immediately seek medical advice.

Following the above guidelines will help you and your loved ones protect yourself from TB.
