The operational headquarters of Kostanay region coordinates preparations for the flood period

A meeting of the Operational Headquarters for preparing for the flood period was held in Kostanay region. Akim of the region Kumar Aksakalov stressed that there is little time left before the start of the spring flood, and the risks of flooding, according to Kazhydromet's forecast, remain at a high level.

"According to preliminary data, spring is expected to be warm and rainy. Full preparedness for the flood situation in the regions has not yet been ensured. In this regard, it was decided to establish an Operational Headquarters that will coordinate flood prevention measures and eliminate the consequences of possible flooding," Kumar Aksakalov said.

Functions of the Operational Headquarters

The established headquarters will take on key tasks to ensure the safety of citizens and prompt response to possible emergencies. The main areas of his work include:
• Development of proposals for flood prevention and elimination of their consequences;
• Deployment of forces and means to combat flooding;
• monitoring the implementation of flood prevention measures;
• organization of evacuation of the population in case of threat to their life and health;
• Restoration of engineering infrastructure and housing in the affected areas;
• Providing social assistance to citizens whose property has been damaged by floods.

Preparatory work needs to be intensified

The governor of the region stressed that preparations for the flood period should be carried out today. Snow removal, road widening, and cleaning of spillways and culverts must be intensified in each locality. Heavy machinery and motor pumps should be deployed in advance in areas of possible flooding.

Kumar Aksakalov paid special attention to the participation of agricultural enterprises in flood prevention activities.:

"The heads of agricultural companies should not stand aside. It is important to provide comprehensive assistance to the population, increase the pace of snow removal and not wait for everything to start melting."
