The first sturgeon breeding farm in the region was launched in the city of Tobyl

A sturgeon breeding farm began operating in the city of Tobyl. It is worth noting that this farm is opening for the first time and today has no analogues in the northern regions of the country. Traditionally, the main fishing industry in the republic is developed in the Atyrau, Almaty, East Kazakhstan and Kyzylorda regions. However, despite the existing niche of the fishing craft in our country, an entrepreneur from the Kostanay region, Valentin Ishchenko, using government support measures, managed to launch a unique project of its kind.
The annual capacity of the farm is 20 tons, of which live weight sturgeon is 10 tons, processed sturgeon is 10 tons. 100 thousand fry will also be produced. 10 permanent jobs were created.
“Thanks to available business support mechanisms from the state, in 2023 we were provided with a preferential loan for the purchase of equipment and the purchase of sturgeon fry. Also, with the help of the state, we are being supplied with electricity; the work is being completed. The existing electrical parameters allowed us to release the fry into the tanks. We plan that in the second half of the year they will go on the market and will become available for retail sales to residents of our region and beyond,” shared Valentin Ishchenko.
According to akim of the region Kumar Aksakalov, in fact, the state pays special attention to the food industry. This is evidenced by existing support measures, as well as the potential of the Kostanay region in the food industry.
“We have enough agricultural raw materials and other auxiliary components for the development of food production. Entrepreneurs need to become more active in this direction; the niche is quite competitive. We need to take an example from such proactive and enterprising young people as Valentin. Moreover, the state primarily stimulates types of products with high added value, aimed at saturating the domestic market,” noted the head of the region.
In general, it is expected that the launched farm will satisfy the demand of region residents for one of the types of valuable fish species, and will also allow it to successfully compete with imported marine processed fish products from abroad in the domestic market.
