Suppression of Illegal Caviar Trade

On April 10, 2020, within the framework of operational and search measures on countering illegal fishing and smuggling detained a resident of Atyrau city “R”. Joint investigation team of the Department of the National Security Committee and Atyrau Prosecutor’s Office seized from the detainee’s car and the place of residence a large consignment of counterfeit caviar, sturgeon fish, navigation equipment, satellite phone and cash.

 

In this regard, the Department of the National Security Committee of the region launched a pre-trial investigation under Article 339 part 2 paragraph 4 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (illegal procurement, acquisition, storage, import, export, transportation or destruction of rare and endangered animals, their parts or derivatives, with the abuse of one's official position).

The detained was placed in the temporary detention center in Atyrau region.

Investigative measures are ongoing.
