Narcotic Drugs Seized during the Detention of Adherents of a Destructive Religious Movement

On January 13, 2021, the Department of the National Security Committee (NSC) for the Atyrau region, in cooperation with the NSC for the Aktobe region, as a result of operational-search activities, detained a group of people involved in organizing a channel for the supply of narcotic drugs of plant origin.

On this fact, a pre-trial investigation has been started under article 297, part 3, paragraph 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (illegal manufacture, processing, acquisition, storage, transportation for the purpose of marketing, sending or selling narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and their analogues).

The Specialized Investigative Court of Atyrau city sanctioned the detainees as a preventive measure “detention in custody”.

These persons are adherents of a destructive religious movement.
