Periodic tax audits based on risk assessment

One of the primary tasks assigned to tax authorities is ensuring the completeness and timeliness of tax and payment collections to the budget. An essential condition for the functioning of any state’s tax system is effective tax control. Tax audits are one of the forms of tax control.
A tax audit is an inspection carried out by tax authorities to verify compliance with the provisions of the Tax Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan and other applicable legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
According to Paragraph 2 of Article 145 of the Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan «On Taxes and Other Mandatory Payments to the Budget» periodic tax audits based on risk assessment are audits initiated by tax authorities regarding taxpayers (tax agents) based on the results of analyzing tax reports, information from authorized state bodies, as well as data obtained from official and open information sources about the activities of taxpayers (tax agents).
The basis for scheduling periodic tax audits based on risk assessment is the semi-annual schedule approved by the decision of the authorized body.
Amendments to the semi-annual audit schedules are not permitted.
The authorized body publishes the semi-annual consolidated audit schedule on its website by December 25 of the year preceding the audit year and by May 25 of the current calendar year.
