On July 18, 2025, a new Tax Code was adopted which provides for a number of changes in the registration procedure for value-added tax (VAT) payers The new procedure came into force on January 1, 2026 The main change is lowering the threshold to 10,000 MCI As before taxpayers who wish to voluntarily register for VAT can do so until the maximum turnover threshold is reached At the same time, persons who are exempt from VAT registration will not be able to voluntarily register for VAT A tax application is submitted when the maximum turnover threshold is exceeded but no later than 5 working days from the date of exceeding the maximum turnover threshold It is important to take into account that in the case of a transaction exceeding the maximum turnover threshold the taxpayer submits a tax statement before making a turnover on such a transaction VAT registration by taxpayers is carried out as soon as the threshold is reached during the year At the same time, turnover exceeding the maximum turnover threshold and committed in the period before the date of registration of the VAT payer is recognized as taxable turnover for the period of non-registration for administrative liability (paragraph 6, Article 101 of the Tax Code)
