By the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated December 20, 2021 "On Amendments and Additions to the Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Taxes and Other Mandatory Payments to the Budget" (Tax Code) and the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On the Enactment of the Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Taxes and Other Mandatory Payments to the Budget" (Tax Code Code)" amendments have been made to the Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Taxes and Other Mandatory Payments to the Budget" (Tax Code), according to which the term "excise stamps" has been replaced by "means of identification".
This rule came into force on January 1, 2022.
Means of identification is a unique sequence of characters in machine–readable form, presented in the form of a bar code, or recorded on a radio frequency tag, or presented using another means (technology) of automatic identification (subparagraph 31) of Article 1 of the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Trade Activities").
Labeling of tobacco products by means of identification ensures traceability of tobacco products from production/import to sale to the final consumer. Thanks to such labeling, consumers are provided with the opportunity to receive detailed information about the purchased product.
Due to the exclusion of paper excise stamps, from January 1, 2022 tobacco products will be marked exclusively by means of identification.
