Transportation of funds when crossing the border

Individuals have the right to import or export foreign and national currency in cash (except for coins made of precious metals) and traveler's checks in a total amount equal to or not exceeding the equivalent of 10 thousand US dollars without customs declaration. The amount exceeding the equivalent of 10 thousand US dollars is subject to mandatory customs declaration, except for cases of import or export carried out from or to the territory that is an integral part of the customs territory of the EAEU countries.

Customs declaration is carried out by submitting a customs declaration in writing for the entire amount, indicating information about the origin and purpose of the cash and traveler's checks being moved.

For non-compliance with the established procedure for the movement of cash by individuals, administrative liability is provided under Article 551 Part 3 of the Administrative Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Non-declaration or false customs declaration of goods, cash, monetary instruments, false statement of information in customs documents" and criminal liability under Article 234 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Economic smuggling".

In the presence of more than 100 thousand dollars, it is necessary to confirm the origin of funds, that is, when one individual moves cash and (or) monetary instruments totaling more than 100 thousand dollars (in equivalent) across the customs border of the EAEU, documents confirming the origin of such funds must be provided simultaneously with the submission of a passenger customs declaration.
