Marking

Marking

A label is a special encrypted label on a product that contains detailed information about the manufacturer, serial number, and anti-hacking code. It is based on the use of the DataMatrix code, which is applied to each pack of cigarettes and has a special "survivability", that is, if up to 30 percent of the applied image is damaged, the code remains available for reading by a 2D scanner.

The purpose of labeling is to administer and increase tax revenue from the sale of labeled goods. Labeling of goods is a mechanism for traceability of the movement of goods, which will increase the revenue of bona fide producers (importers) and sellers by reducing the shadow turnover of counterfeit excisable products. In general, mandatory labeling of goods on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan will be carried out in stages.

At the first stage, that is, from October 1, 2020, the following obligations are introduced:

* manufacturers and importers are required to apply labeling codes to manufactured and imported tobacco products;

  • when selling tobacco products at retail outlets, the marking code must be "read" and transmitted to the CRF in the CCM receipt.

Manufacturers and importers must label not only cigarettes with the Data Matrix code, but also cigars, hookah tobacco, and e-cigarette sticks.
