A book about fellow veterans is being prepared in the Karkaralinsk district for the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Stories about heroic ancestors are being restored from museum archives and stories of descendants.
The idea to collect biographies of all those who were drafted into the war from the Karkaralinsk district was born from the staff of the local Museum of Local Lore. They began to systematize the stories of soldiers who fought for their homeland back in 2015, on the eve of the 70th anniversary of the Victory.
Now, 10 years later, they decided to supplement the collected material and publish it as a book. The famous local historian Sayat Ospanov is working on the project together with the museum staff.
– To date, we have received stories about 124 veterans. But we do not just accept the stories of our descendants on faith, but ask for documents from the military enlistment office, autobiographies, photos, and any other evidence. It is very important for us to publish this book, to preserve the memory of our heroic ancestors," says the local historian.
The collection of the material will last until the end of March. The book is planned to be published in May, on the anniversary of the Victory.
According to the Department of Defense of the Karkaralinsky district, from 1941 to 1945, 2,178 people went to the front. Of these, only 737 returned.
