Akim of Karaganda region and Ambassador of Romania discussed the development of cooperation

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Kazakhstan Madeline Lupu visited Karaganda region. On the Day of Gratitude, the head of the diplomatic department attended the festival of Romanian culture "Martsishor-2025" at the Karaganda Friendship House. Also during the official visit, she visited the leading Karaganda universities: technical, medical and named after E. Buketov. At the meeting with the head of the region, Ermaganbet Bulekpayev, the possibilities of developing cooperation in the humanitarian and economic spheres were discussed.

– The Karaganda region is an industrial region with a developed infrastructure, we occupy the first place in the country in the manufacturing industry. There is a growth potential. The Karaganda region exports its products to many countries around the world. I looked at it: the trade turnover with Romania is insignificant. There is something to work on," said Ermaganbet Bulekpayev.

Since 2017, Karaganda's sister city has been the Romanian city of Cluj-Napoca in the Transylvania region. Last year, a delegation from Karaganda visited him, and potential points of contact were identified.

Ms. Madeline Lupu stressed that Kazakhstan is one of Romania's strategic partners. Both countries are part of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. According to the ambassador, opportunities are opening up in terms of logistics, given the plans to create a large air hub in the Karaganda region.

There are also prospects for cooperation in education. Ermaganbet Bulekpayev suggested that, in addition to universities, the development of relations with colleges in the region should be considered.

And the experience of Romanian technoparks may be interesting for the economy.

– We visited three Karaganda universities. They showed a film about the history of Romania. The role of women in diplomacy was discussed with the students. I think these topics are relevant both for the younger generation and for the development of our relations. We have opportunities for cooperation in the field of higher education and strengthening economic ties," Madeline Lupu said.

Ermaganbet Bulekpaev invited Romanian businessmen to the regional investment forum, which is scheduled for May.
