Vladimir Muravyev is the only two-time Olympic champion in athletics in Kazakhstan, Olympic medalist Dmitry Karpov, winners of the Asian Games and Asian Championships Sergey Zasimovich and Marina Aitova. These are the first four famous athletes, in whose honor signs were installed on the alley of stars in the Karaganda athletics arena named after K. Nurzhanov.
Honored coaches, athletes and young athletes came to the opening.
- The younger generation should focus on the outstanding athletes of our region. They should be proud of them. There are only four stars so far, but they are really bright, titled. The athlete's peak is the Olympic and Asian Games, which take place once every four years. Therefore, the choice was unambiguous," said Nurlan Tusupov, head of the regional sports school for children and youth of the Olympic Reserve in athletics.
The design of the stars is modern and stylish. The name of the athlete and his achievements are on the sign.
The plexiglass and metal construction immediately attracts attention. In the dark, the stars are illuminated.
There is a place nearby for the future. Perhaps new stars will light up soon.
Ahead of the Karaganda athletes are the Asian Games in China this year and the Olympic Games-2024 in France.
Honored coaches Vasily Karpov and Sergey Zasimovich are proud of their sons.
- Dmitry has been purposeful since childhood. He continued the traditions of our family. Mother Vera Fedorovna was a multi-athlete, was a member of the USSR national team, and I am a multi-wrestler. I am very happy for our Karaganda athletics, which has raised champions and Olympic medalists. I wish young athletes to achieve great results on a global scale," Vasily Karpov said.
At the opening ceremony of the alley, the best mentors were awarded letters of thanks and certificates of honor for their significant contribution to the development of physical culture and sports. The pupils of the athletics school – champions of Kazakhstan and winners of international competitions were also noted.
