A budget alternative to the electric wheelchair was offered by ninth-graders of the Nazarbayev Intellectual School of Karaganda Sofia Dasayeva and Leila Nurlybayeva. For teenagers with disabilities, they have created an experimental version of a wheelchair-a gyro scooter.

– We did an analysis of the accessibility of the urban environment for low-income people. One of the problems is the high cost of electric wheels. We decided to create a budget alternative. I came up with the idea of how to use gyroscuters, which were popular until recently, but now many people do not need them, " said the students of the NICHE. – The project was implemented under the guidance of teacher Zhanar Baymetova. For the model, a children's mechanical wheelchair, a gyro scooter and some other parts, levers were needed. Specialists of the technical department of the regional clinical hospital helped to collect it.
In the same hospital and two polyclinics, the gyro scooter stroller was tested for quality and convenience. For testing, Sofia and Leila got into the stroller themselves, tried to climb up and down the ramp on it, turn around 90 and 360 degrees, accelerate and slow down.

– Our wheelchair moves due to levers. We have developed instructions to make it easier to understand," says Sofia.
According to her, the cost of such a stroller is a little more than 100 thousand tenge – 14 times cheaper than an electric wheelchair. Schoolgirls believe that it is possible to initiate a social project: people would hand over gyroscuters and mechanical wheelchairs that they do not need, and after assembling the device, those in need would receive them for free.
Sofia Dasayeva and Leyla Nurlybayeva took the third place in the online competition of scientific projects of NIS. In the future, they intend to improve their idea in order to implement it in life.

In the same competition, the winner was a student of the 12th grade Almubdi Mutayhan. Together with the teacher Dauren Krylov, he researched the development of the volunteer movement in Karaganda. As a result, a student of NIS created a thematic website.
– This site contains information about the activities of Karaganda volunteers. He will help coordinate volunteer activities at the regional level. We are continuing the project. A mobile application is currently being developed. At the moment it is in the testing stage," says Almubdi.
As a volunteer, he taught his peers programming in online courses. Almubdi has successes in this field, and he willingly shares his knowledge.
