Alikhan Smailov urged ArcelorMittal Temirtau to take effective measures to reduce accidents at work

As part of a working trip to the Karaganda region, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov visited industrial and social facilities of the city of Temirtau.

Thus, the head of government got acquainted with the work of the blast furnace-3 of ArcelorMittal Temirtau JSC, during which he discussed with the leadership of the region and the enterprise issues of industrial safety.

Alikhan Smailov noted that metallurgical production is a high-level danger zone. At the same time, this problem is particularly acute at ArcelorMittal Temirtau, and the measures implemented at the enterprise to create safe working conditions do not yet allow to radically improve the situation.

According to the Prime Minister, one of the main reasons for the negative consequences is the insufficient allocation of investments for the modernization of technological processes, including the renewal of morally and physically worn-out equipment.

"We cannot put up with the situation when 10-12 people die in production every year. The deterioration of the equipment is very high, the level of investment in modernization is 2-3 times lower compared to other enterprises. This needs to be fixed. It is necessary to gradually increase the volume of investments and, first of all, ensure the safety of your employees," Alikhan Smailov addressed the company's management.

In addition, he focused on issues of ensuring environmental safety.

"Environmental issues are also on the agenda. The corresponding tasks are set by the Head of State. Therefore, we must work together on this issue," he said.

In this regard, the head of government called on the management of the enterprise to develop effective measures to prevent accidents at work and comply with environmental obligations.

Further, Alikhan Smailov got acquainted with the activities of the industrial gas production plant of Linde Gas Kazakhstan LLP, which was launched after the signing of a memorandum of cooperation during the visit of the Head of State to Germany.

"This example shows that the agreements between the countries are being successfully implemented. This is a good incentive for other foreign companies considering investing in our country," the Prime Minister said.

Alikhan Smailov added that the company's solutions to reduce carbon dioxide emissions can be successfully applied at metallurgical and chemical plants, oil and gas and energy industries in other regions of the country.

In Temirtau, the head of government also visited the kindergarten "Academy of Small Talents", which implements an improved program for the upbringing and development of children.

In total, 322 new kindergartens are planned to be commissioned across the country this year, including 14 in the Karaganda region.

The Prime Minister stressed that in order to provide every child with high-quality preschool education and training, systematic work will continue on the development of public-private partnership and business stimulation.
