Karaganda will become the youth capital of the CIS 

Karaganda has been officially declared the youth capital of the CIS in 2028. This decision was made by the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States. More than 303,000 young people live in the region, for whom new international opportunities are opening up.

According to the CIS Executive Committee, Minsk will become the youth capital of the CIS in 2027, and in 2028, the relay will pass to Karaganda.

"Karaganda is a multicultural city that promotes tolerance and cultural exchange and has a rich potential as a platform for intercultural projects within the CIS. Youth organizations dealing with issues of education, cultural leisure and social activity of youth are actively working in the city, international projects and forums are supported. Work is being carried out on an ongoing basis to improve the environmental situation and the quality of life in the city, in which young people are widely involved," the executive committee noted.

A city awarded the status of a youth capital gets the right to host a meeting of the Council for Youth Affairs and a Forum of Youth organizations of the CIS countries.

Such a decision is a great honor for the region and recognition of its potential, said Akim of the region Ermaganbet Bulekpayev.

"Today, more than 303,000 active, talented, and initiative young people live in the region. They are the ones who drive forward volunteerism, education, science, entrepreneurship, and community initiatives. The status of the CIS youth capital opens up new opportunities for Karaganda for international cooperation, exchange of experience and implementation of large-scale youth projects. I am sure that together we will adequately carry out this large international project," the head of the region wrote on his Facebook page.

The CIS Youth Capital project is being implemented by decision of the CIS Council of Heads of Government and is aimed at more actively involving young people in the development of international cooperation in various fields.
