The special feature of the Olympiad is its practical format The participants were not only tested but also performed tasks that were as close as possible to real production processes they smelted and bottled steel investigated the operation of a vibrating screen determined fractions of materials and analyzed minerals using artificial intelligence

The competition was held in two stages In the first (theoretical) course, students worked with a 3D atlas of a melting furnace and special training programs that simulate the operation of a metallurgical enterprise

At the second stage, the participants had to demonstrate practical skills Each team received one of three directions and a corresponding set of tasks

The team of Temirtau Higher Polytechnic College got to work with mineralogical samples The students had to prepare the mineral perform digital microscopy upload the image to an artificial intelligence-based system and determine the type of mineral

The team coped with the task successfully and took the first place sharing the victory with representatives of Russia students of the multidisciplinary college at Magnitogorsk State Technical University named after G. I. Nosov
