Oncological care is being improved in the Karaganda region

The Karaganda region continues to modernize the oncological service. The TrueBeam linear accelerator, a new generation of equipment for high–precision radiation therapy, has been launched at the Multidisciplinary Hospital No. 3 in Karaganda. The treatment of patients has already begun.

The device was purchased at the expense of the public fund "Kazakhstan Khalkyna". This is another step in the implementation of the Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan for 2023-2027, adopted on behalf of the Head of State.

About 4,000 new cases of cancer are detected in the region every year. Previously, about 700 people received radiation therapy per year, but over the past two years, 1,807 patients have already received treatment. With the introduction of the new accelerator, the coverage is planned to increase to 1,500 people annually.

Akim of the region Ermaganbet Bulekpayev noted that the modernization of the oncological service remains a priority.

– Oncological diseases are one of the most serious medical and social problems. Over the past two years, three modern linear accelerators have been purchased for the regional oncology center, two of them at the expense of the Kazakhstan Halkyna Foundation. This made it possible to increase the volume of assistance by almost three times. The introduction of TrueBeam brings the radiological service of the region to a qualitatively new level," said the head of the region.

In addition, the center will be able to receive patients not only from the Karaganda region and Ulytau region, but also from other regions of the country. This will strengthen it as an interregional cancer center.

– This program has a great effect in all regions. If people used to leave and seek treatment abroad, now it is not necessary. The treatment protocol is the same as in Europe, in any other country. Our oncologists are trained in all new standards. And the best advanced equipment is installed. As they say: houses and walls are treated. And the task is to provide highly specialized assistance to everyone on the principle of "here and now," said Lazzat Chinkisbayeva, Chairman of the Board of the Public Foundation "Kazakhstan Khalkyna."

According to Gamal Toksambayev, director of the hospital, new technologies can minimize radiation exposure to healthy tissues, reduce complications and improve the effectiveness of treatment.

The TrueBeam system is used by the world's leading cancer centers. The equipment is equipped with a multi-petal collimator for precise formation of the radiation field, built–in CT imaging for daily monitoring of the patient's position, an energy change function for the treatment of deep-lying tumors, as well as a gating system, a breathing control technology for the treatment of chest tumors.

The device allows to carry out modern methods of high-precision radiation therapy for tumors of various localizations.
