Karaganda skier wins silver at Asian Cup in South Korea

Evgenia Vadutova from Karaganda took the second place at the Asian Roller Ski Cup. The competition takes place from August 4-8 in Pyeongchang (South Korea).

A total of 74 athletes from Korea, the Philippines, Taipei, Mongolia, Kazakhstan and China are participating in the competition. Seven athletes from the Karaganda region joined the national team. Two of them showed high results.

Evgenia Vadutova won the silver medal in the 1 km classic sprint race.

She also received the jersey of the leader of the Asian Cup sprint standings.

– This is a very prestigious T-shirt. When athletes come to the start in clothes with their numbers, the leaders come out in these T-shirts. It says "Leader" on them. They have no number," explains Maxim Shcherbakov, senior coach at the Olympic Winter Sports Training Center.

Dilara Baysekeeva, a resident of Karaganda, also showed a decent result. She finished sixth in the sprint race.

– The competition is gaining momentum with each stage. Everyone is trying to bring their national teams. The teams of other countries played as the main teams, but our national team did not. The main team is preparing for the Olympics," said Maxim Shcherbakov.

The third stage of the Asian Cup will be held from September 4-7 this year in Shchuchinsk. It is assumed that the main squad of the national team of Kazakhstan will perform at it.
