More than 47 years have passed since the first issue of the district newspaper was published. During this time, epochs and generations have changed. And the district newspaper is still a reliable link between the authorities and the population of the district, the favorite publication of Abay residents. She skillfully performs the role of a chronicler of the main events of the district. The staff of the newspaper has always objectively and comprehensively covered the political, public, and social life of the district, while never ignoring stories about people who made a significant contribution to the development of the district, such as miners, honorary residents of the district, teachers, doctors, public figures, veterans, etc.
The publication changed several names — "For Communist Labor", "People's Tribune", "Abaysky Vestnik-Abay Khabarshysy", On the basis of the order of the akim of the Abay district, the newspaper " People's Tribune "was renamed the newspaper"Abaysky Vestnik" on November 10, 1997. Since November 10, 1997, Gulsym Akhmetbekova has been the acting editor-in-chief of the Abaysky Vestnik newspaper. Under her leadership, since 2001, the newspaper has been called "Abay-Akikat".
In 1997, the newspaper was published once a month, its circulation was 961 copies – 4 pages. But every article in the paper was weighty, with great force of persuasion and passion. In 1991, there were big changes — the publication began to be published in 2 languages-Kazakh and Russian.
Initially, the editorial office was located in the village of Topar, and in 1997, with the formation of the Abay district, the newspaper's editorial office moved to Abay.
The editors were wonderful people, talented journalists-E. B. Tokshylyk-1998-1999, from 1999 to 2000 – Gulsym Akhmetbekova became the editor-in-chief again, B. K. Mekeev-2000-2003, from 2003 — A. Ospan, S. Nesipov-2003-2005, T. Orynbekov-2005-2006, Zh. Ospan-2007-2010.
In the district newspaper, there were wonderful correspondents who covered the life of the mining region in different years – this is Yu.Panov, M. Storden, N. Mikhin, M. Popenko, J. Imanov, V. G., Balandin, Y. F. Fuchs, V. M. Minin, M. Absemetov A. Kanaliev, B. Isaeva, M. Kokkozov, G. Alimbaeva, B. Sagimbekov, G. Satimova, V. Trepachko, N. Smagulov, M. Iskakov, G. Bazovy, N. Dede, L. Kovrigina, I. I. islyamov, Yulia Demyanova, and many others.
In 2001 and 2003, the district newspaper won the second and third places, respectively, at the regional competition for the promotion of the state language.
Whatever the newspaper wrote about, it tried to convey to the reader the ideas of creation, kindness, humanity. For almost 30 years, people of different generations, different eras worked in the editorial office of the district newspaper. But they were all united by a selfless love of the newspaper business.
