Contraband currency confiscated

Court verdict No.2 of the Yesilsky district of Nur-Sultan from 04/22/2022, a citizen of the Russian Federation was found guilty of smuggling foreign currency 49,650 US dollars, 15,000 Euros and 8,600 pounds sterling of the United Kingdom of Great Britain.
This fact was revealed by the border service officers during her departure to the city of Warsaw from the city of Nur-Sultan.
As part of the consideration of the criminal case, the court mistakenly concluded that contraband items in the form of cash are subject to return to their owner.
The sentence was corrected at the appeal request of the prosecutor, in accordance with paragraph 4 of Part 3 of Part 118 of the Criminal Procedure Code, foreign currency was confiscated to the state's income.
At the same time, we draw the attention of citizens and guests of our country that when crossing customs control, foreign currency exceeding the amount equivalent to ten thousand US dollars is subject to mandatory declaration.
These requirements are provided for in paragraph 7) Part 1 of Article 343 of the Code "On Customs Regulation in the Republic of Kazakhstan" and paragraph 7) Part 1 of Article 260 of the Customs Code of the Eurasian Economic Union.
In addition, in order to protect the national interests of the country and ensure the financial stability of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Decree of the Head of State Tokayev K.K. dated 14.03.2022 restricted the export of cash foreign currency and (or) monetary instruments in foreign currency in an amount exceeding the equivalent of 10,000 (ten thousand) US dollars and gold bars.
In this regard, we urge citizens to be careful when passing customs control and crossing the state border.
