In February 2019, researchers at the Central Asian Institute of Environmental Research jointly with the A.I. Institute of Ecology and Evolution Severtsov organized a scientific expedition to study the Caspian seal.
During the expedition, specialists took samples from seals and newborns and conducted monitoring during calving.
The Caspian seal is the only representative of marine mammals in the fauna of the Caspian Sea.
Recall that in June 2019 in the Senate, Erlan Nysanbaev spoke about the problems of the Caspian seal population. On the walls of the Parliament, the Vice Minister announced the results of scientific research of the Caspian littoral states.
According to scientific estimates, the numbers of seals vary significantly and in order to obtain objective materials it is necessary to organize joint research based on uniform methodological approaches.
In this regard, Kazakh and Russian scientists in July 2019 approved the Caspian Seal Research Program in the Northern Caspian, which is planned for 5 years.
