The joint maintenance of oligochaetes and chironomids with polychaetes showed that hedista, being a polyphage, prefers live food if there is a choice.
Marked selectivity is noted: first of all, small oligochaetes are issued. In the absence of oligochaetes, larger and tougher larvae of chironomids are actively consumed, which may pose a threat to undermine the native fauna of reservoirs of the chironomid-oligochaete type.
Larvae of blood-sucking mosquitoes are used only by large polychaetes in the absence of other food.
The work is carried out within the framework of the project "Development of scientifically-based recommendations for improving the fish productivity of fishery reservoirs through the introduction and reintroduction of fish and hydrobionts – components of the fish food base".
