Information on fish deaths in the Caspian Sea (as of September 3, 2022)

On September 2, 2022, in accordance with the Scheme of interaction of state bodies, the Working Group went to the place of death of fish in the area of the locality "Residential spit" of the Zhylyoy district of Atyrau region.

The Working Group included representatives of the Zhaiyk-Caspian Interregional Basin Fisheries Inspection, the local executive body, the Department of Ecology of the Atyrau region, the Scientific and Production Center of Fisheries, the Veterinary Service of the Zhylyoy district, the Association of Fisheries-BD. The media were represented by the Caspian news TV channel.

Upon the arrival of the Working Group to the place of death of fish, it was revealed that about 9 km of the area where the dead fish were found was flooded with water (depth 20 cm).

🟢The Department of Ecology of Atyrau region selected water and soil samples for analysis. Due to the decomposition of the dead fish, no samples were taken by the veterinary service for examination.

As noted earlier, from August 18 to August 23, 2022, runaway phenomena were observed in the Caspian Sea, that is, the water retreated by several tens of kilometers, from 5 to 25 km, and the fish, with a sharp acceleration of water masses, remained in a depression with a small volume of water and died.

🟤It is not possible to clean the place of death of fish, since the area is swampy and the arrival of special equipment at the site is not possible.
