The Head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Meets with a Member of the Parliament of the Republic of Finland

A meeting was held at the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan between Minister for Emergency Situations, Lieutenant General Chingis Arinov, and Ville Skinnari, a Member of the Parliament of the Republic of Finland.

During the meeting, the parties discussed promising areas of cooperation in environmental safety and emergency response, including risks associated with oil spills in the Caspian Sea. They also discussed cooperation with the Finnish company Lamor Corporation within the framework of the European Union’s Global Gateway initiative.

Special attention was given to the development of cooperation between the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan and Lamor Corporation, a Finnish company specializing in environmental protection technologies and oil spill response. Currently, cooperation is being developed in three key areas: the development of a specialized fleet, the introduction of modern technologies for oil spill response, and the training of qualified specialists. The implementation of these initiatives will enhance the preparedness of the Ministry’s units to respond to potential oil spills in the Caspian Sea, which is of particular strategic importance for Kazakhstan.

The meeting also included discussions on Kazakhstan’s potential participation in the European Union’s Global Gateway initiative. Lamor Corporation is currently developing a concept for a relevant program aimed at enhancing the environmental resilience of the Caspian Sea. It is expected to include a comprehensive set of measures covering environmental monitoring, oil spill preparedness and response, biodiversity protection, environmental restoration, professional capacity building, and sustainable environmental governance.

The guest was also presented with investment projects of JSC «Teńiz Jasaǵy». The parties agreed to continue cooperation in the field of oil spill response in the Caspian Sea.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue consultations and explore potential areas for further cooperation within the framework of the Global Gateway initiative. The development of this partnership will help combine international experience, modern technologies, and the capacities of Kazakhstan’s government agencies to ensure the environmental safety of the Caspian Sea and promote the sustainable development of the region.
