The Emergency Department of Pavlodar region recommends to know and implement general measures of safe behavior.
During a strong wind:
- while at home, close the windows;
- while on the street, try not to approach trees, as well as various high-risk structures (bridges, overpasses, pipelines, power lines);
- avoid billboards, dilapidated buildings and easily erected structures;
Rules of behavior on the street in icy conditions:
- attention and caution are the main principles of behavior that should be strictly adhered to in icy conditions. While moving along a slippery street, take your time, avoid sudden movements, constantly look at your feet. The legs should be slightly relaxed and bent at the knees, while the body is slightly tilted forward. Elderly people are recommended to get a cane with a rubber pad;
- if possible, your route should be laid away from the roadway. At the same time, it is not advisable to go in close proximity to the walls of buildings, on the roofs of which icicles are often formed. Crossing the carriageway of the road, you should be extremely careful, and, of course, the rule of crossing to the other side of the street exclusively through a pedestrian crossing should not be neglected in any case;
- do not exit abruptly onto the roadway in front of a nearby vehicle. Make sure that the driver sees you and has the opportunity to stop. Cross the road in the designated places, in places where the road is clearly visible in both directions. In the dark, identify yourself with reflective elements of clothing;
In case of ice and snow rolling drivers:
- if possible, limit the departure by private vehicle. Use winter tires. Use seat belts, observe a safe distance, maneuvering rules, do not exceed the speed limit, turn on low beam headlights or fog lights;
- in conditions of ice and snow rolling on a slippery road, it is better to avoid sudden maneuvers and overtaking. When driving on the rise, choose such a gear so that you do not have to switch until the ascent is complete. During the descent, do not press the clutch pedal, when driving a car at speed, brake smoothly;
- do not brake sharply on a slippery road, it is not only useless, but also dangerous. Sudden braking leads to blocking of the wheels and an increase in the braking distance, and most often the car becomes uncontrollable. Driving through a dangerous area, try to keep the speed constant, use the accelerator pedal very carefully, smoothly, gently. Do not make sudden movements with the steering wheel;
- when driving on bridges and overpasses, be especially careful. Ice flooring on these sections of the road appears earlier than everywhere else, and disappears later. In these areas, avoid sudden movements with the steering wheel, gas, brake;
- don't forget about pedestrians. People who cross the road may slip and fall. Try not to scare the pedestrian with sharp sound and light signals. When approaching pedestrian crossings and the locations of children's institutions, reduce the speed to a minimum.
