A month of fire safety has started in the capital

Every year, with the onset of cold weather and the approach of the heating season, in order to prevent fires, deaths and injuries, the Emergency Department of Astana annually conducts preventive measures to bypass the private residential sector, which are divided into 3 stages, (stage 1 - from August 15 to September 15; stage 2 - from September 15 to October 15 and Stage 3 - from October 15 to the end of the heating period) within which the Department's employees, volunteers carry out yard rounds, raids, and propaganda work is intensified.
At the initiative of the Department, during the first stage of the fire safety month, it is planned to visit the housing of socially vulnerable segments of the population together with representatives of social protection, akimats, housing inspection, MPS, etc. Paying special attention to this category of persons is natural, since this category of persons does not always have the opportunity to bring their housing into a fire-safe condition.
The Department, together with local executive bodies, has corrected the lists of residential buildings of socially vulnerable segments of the population. According to the city of Astana, 935 houses of socially vulnerable segments of the population and 1162 houses converted into dormitories and commercial activities are registered today.
With the support of the city Akimat, work will continue on the installation of fire detectors, carbon monoxide sensors and gas analyzers in the homes of socially vulnerable segments of the population. The introduction of systems of "passive" protection of people contributes to early detection of fire, notification of people and, accordingly, timely exit from the danger zone. During the rounds, the main emphasis is on the device of furnaces and chimneys, electric heaters. In cases of violations during the installation of stoves and chimneys, the owners are given recommendations for their elimination, and memos on fire-fighting topics are handed over. After all, the fulfillment of fire safety requirements when installing stoves is possible only in the warm season.
According to statistics for the city of Astana, 406 fires have occurred since the beginning of this year (a decrease of 9.4%, 2022 - 448), in which 4 people were killed, 25 injured, 53 people were rescued. Most of the fires occur in the residential sector – 163 cases (40.1% of the total number of fires).
The main causes of fires are:
- careless handling of fire;
- violation of the rules of installation and operation of electrical equipment;
- violation of fire safety rules during the installation and operation of furnace heating;
- violation of fire safety rules during the operation of household electrical appliances .
I would like to note that the preparation of heating furnaces primarily involves cleaning the chimney from soot, fire-fighting devices from combustible structures to highly heated furnace surfaces, etc.
This event is held in order to reduce the number of fires in the residential sector of the capital. At the same time, it is necessary to remind citizens about ensuring fire safety for the upcoming heating period.
- to repair and prepare heating systems for the upcoming heating period;
- to clean chimneys, chimneys and other elements of heating furnaces and systems from soot immediately before the start, as well as during the heating season at least once every three months;
- make an audit of the electrical wiring, take measures to replace dilapidated and laid according to a temporary scheme of electrical wires;
- do not overload the electrical networks, do not use non-standard electric heating devices of handicraft production for heating;
- do not switch furnaces, do not dry combustible materials, laundry on heating furnaces;
- clean the yard area from dry grass and combustible debris, determine in advance a safe place to collect ash;
- do not leave children at home without adult supervision.
- service companies should take measures to restrict access to attics and basements of the municipal housing stock of the city;
- to ensure compliance with fire safety in public access areas, to carry out timely and high-quality maintenance of fire protection systems, not to clutter evacuation routes and access roads for fire equipment, to keep in good condition the sources of external fire water supply.
Remember that it is easier to prevent a fire than to extinguish it.
