About safety during the summer holidays

Today, the capital's DChS together with the city's Education Department spoke at a briefing reminding residents about child safety on the eve of the summer holidays.

During the summer holidays, parents should remind their children of the rules of safe behavior, since children and adolescents have more free time, and they are more often left to themselves. Any responsible parent is concerned about the health and safety of their child. But worry and love alone are not enough to protect children from accidents, because they are naturally inquisitive, and because of their lack of life experience, they are fearless. In the conditions of a modern city, a child due to natural curiosity and lack of proper control on the part of adults is vulnerable to a number of dangers, the main of which are fires, accidents on reservoirs, children falling from windows. In theory, every parent can face fires due to childish pranks. That is why it is necessary to teach children the rules of fire safety and periodically remind them of them. Only in three years (2019-2021) in the city of Nur-Sultan as of May 17, 7 children were killed in fires, 14 children were injured. For the same period (2019-2021)46 cases of children falling out of windows were registered, of which 10 children were killed and 36 were injured.

How to protect a child from fire?Keep matches and lighters out of the reach of children; do not allow children to heat stoves, use gas and electric appliances on their own; immediately stop any children playing with fire; explain fire safety rules; learn emergency phone numbers with your child!

Another major cause of child injuries and deaths is falling out of windows, especially in urban areas. Children are very vulnerable to an open window because of their natural curiosity. The risk of falling from windows is exposed to children aged 3 to 7 years, this is the age when the child himself is not yet able to assess the danger of playing on the windowsill, and none of the adults have explained this to him. Most falls occur when parents leave their children unattended. In this regard, we urge parents to be vigilant and not to leave young children alone in a room with open windows.

How to protect your child from falling out of the window?

  1. Never keep the windows open if the child is at home! You think that you are near, but the second that you are distracted, may be the last in the life of your child!
  2. Make a rearrangement, move away from the windows of all kinds of furniture, so that the child can not climb on the windowsill. If this is not possible, do not allow children to play on the bed or other furniture located near the windows.
  3. NEVER count on mosquito nets! They are not designed to protect you from falling! On the contrary, the mosquito net contributes to the tragedy, because the child feels safe behind it and leans both on the window and on it. Very often, children fall out with these grids.
  4. If possible, open the windows(vents)top, not bottom.
  5. Install window blockers (special latches) so that the child can not open the window by himself!!!!

Take the time to talk to your baby, and you will save him from danger, and yourself from unnecessary worry! By following the above recommendations, you will be able to prevent an accident and avoid a big disaster! Take care of yourself and your children!
