Prevention of carbon monoxide poisoning

Carbon monoxide is a poisonous gas that has no smell and taste, which in turn makes it particularly dangerous. Inhaling carbon monoxide is dangerous because it leads to acute oxygen starvation, which can lead to death.

Causes of carbon monoxide formation Carbon monoxide is formed when carbon is burned under conditions of oxygen deficiency. Gorenje In practice, carbon monoxide is formed by the combustion of various types of fuels that do not burn completely – for example, gas, oil, coal and wood. In cities, carbon monoxide is mainly found in the exhaust gases from internal combustion engines, and is also formed during the combustion of household gas.

Causes of carbon monoxide poisoning:

- violation of the rules of operation of furnace heating (untimely closing of the furnace flap, insufficient access of fresh air to the fuel tank, poor traction).

- faulty operation of the furnace and chimney (cracks in the furnace structure, clogged chimney).

- finding a person in the hearth of a fire.

- gorenje household gas in conditions of lack of oxygen and poor ventilation;

Poisoning can be gradual or lightning-fast. It depends on the concentration of gas in the air, the duration of its exposure and the individual sensitivity of the person. The process of carbon monoxide poisoning can be described as follows: carbon monoxide actively binds to hemoglobin in human blood, forming carboxyhemoglobin, and blocks the transfer of oxygen to tissue cells, which leads to hypoxia. In other words, when inhaling carbon monoxide, its molecules «take» the place of oxygen in a person's blood, which can lead to his death. Signs of poisoning:

  1. With a mild degree: - the appearance of a feeling of heaviness and pulsations in the head; - pain in the temples and forehead («hoop on the head»), darkening and flashing of «flies» in the eyes, tinnitus; redness of the skin, palpitations, trembling, weakness, nausea, vomiting. 6) with a more severe degree: increasing muscle weakness, increased pulse rate, pupil dilation, shallow breathing, dizziness; - confused consciousness, drowsiness, loss of consciousness; - the appearance of cyanosis on the face, possibly pink spots
