Safety in the winter

With the onset of the winter period, it is time for snowfall, snowstorms, and snowdrifts on highways. Failure to comply with safety regulations increases the risk of emergencies.

In order to prevent emergencies in winter, especially in conditions of heavy snowstorms, snowdrifts on the roads, the emergency Department of the Almaty region to observe the necessary security measures, namely:

on transport:

- keep track of weather information;

- do not go on the road in adverse weather conditions, especially at night in a Blizzard;

- try not to deviate from the road;

- do not neglect extra clothing;

- in the car, have a stock of food, a thermos of hot tea;

- when stopping in a heavy snowstorm, turn the car's hood to the wind;

- periodically shovel snow from the exhaust pipe and Windows. Warm up the car, saving fuel;

- don't panic, stay calm. When getting out of the car, secure yourself with a rope, soft rope, belt, and other strong safety devices;

- don't stray too far from the car;

- periodically give signals with a flashlight, headlights, sound signal, etc. devices.

On foot:

- put on warm clothes;

- go along fences, walls, fences, roadsides;

- when walking, do not rush, if possible, in a group, focus on the speed of the weakest;

- it is better for a group of people to go in a chain, redistribute the load, do not talk and do not get distracted while driving;

- rest standing, do not sit down or lie down on the snow;

- if movement is not possible and there is no need – wait out the snowstorm;

- build a snow shelter where you can provide yourself with warmth.

Also, in order to promptly warn the population about dangerous weather events, storm warnings and inform about road closures of a preventive nature, the Ministry of emergency situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan has developed and is already operating a mobile application "Darmen".
