Smoking and drunkenness are common causes of fires.
The main conditions contributing to the occurrence of fires in the housing stock and the death of people from them are smoking and drunkenness. Statistics show that about 70% of those killed in fires abused alcoholic beverages and often smoked in bed.
A smoldering cigarette butt, falling on bedding, leads to a fire after 15 minutes. In this case, a person receives a lethal dose of carbon monoxide after 3 minutes. In addition, most of these fires happen at night. Basically, the detection of a fire by neighbors occurs when the house is almost completely engulfed in fire. The message to the fire service arrives very late, and the person inside the house dies. Very often, drunk smokers endanger not only their own lives, but the lives of other people – relatives, neighbors.
Dear citizens! Remember that most of the emergencies that occur in everyday life are due to the notorious human factor. And smoking is no exception!
The rules of fire safety do not regulate cigarette smoking in residential premises, however, based on the sad experience of rescuers-firefighters, it is possible to formulate the basic requirements:
- ash must be collected in ashtrays; as an ashtray, it is necessary to use devices made of non-combustible material
- never smoke in bed or on the couch. A tired or drunk person cannot always control his actions.
- it is advisable to smoke outdoors or in a specially designated room in which the floors are made of non-flammable material in case the cigarette falls on the floor;
- do not smoke near flammable and combustible liquids;
- at the end of smoking, it is necessary to carefully extinguish the cigarette,
- install an autonomous fire detector in the house. With a loud beep, it will inform you about the beginning of a fire and save your life.
- do not throw out outstanding cigarettes or matches from windows or balconies, they can be carried by air currents to neighboring balconies and into open windows of apartments, which causes fires.
Any violation of fire safety rules entails, as you know, not only sad consequences in the form of fires, but also bringing to justice those responsible for the violation
