Wolves live throughout Kazakhstan. The registration of wolves on the ground is carried out by hunting users, specialists of specially protected natural areas and regional territorial inspections of forestry and wildlife. They are included in the list of species of animals to be regulated, in order to protect public health, protect against diseases of agricultural and other domestic animals, prevent environmental damage, prevent the risk of significant damage to agricultural activities.
Human conflict with the wolf exists in almost all regions of our neighborhood and is especially acute in areas of active animal husbandry. Thus, the goal of rational management of wolf populations is to effectively regulate their numbers, without disrupting their functions in ecosystems.
The number of wolves over the past year in our country amounted to about 14,408 individuals (Reference. In 2019, there were 12,812 wolves). Wolf regulation is carried out in all regions of Kazakhstan, with the exception of the North Kazakhstan region, which is explained by the absence of a settled wolf, due to the geographical data of the region. But at the same time, in this territory there is a passing wolf.
It should be noted that the wolf is quite ductile in appearance and, depending on climatic, geographical conditions, as well as the feed base, its population can vary greatly. At the same time, a ban on the regulation of wolves was not established.
In the event of a sharp decrease in its number, the Committee of Forestry and Wildlife will take appropriate measures.
