In the North Kazakhstan Region, convicts are taught computer literacy

The Department of the Penal Enforcement System in the North Kazakhstan region and the North Kazakhstan University named after Manash Kozybayev signed a memorandum of mutual cooperation.

The main focus of the memorandum is the organization and conduct of classes using distance learning technologies. Previously, information and explanatory work was carried out with the convicts about the possibility of taking short-term courses.

At the moment, 30 convicts are being trained in a specially developed practical computer literacy course, 20 of them in a male colony and 10 in a female one. The learning process takes place daily, in an online format, under the supervision of teachers of institutions. The necessary lectures and assignments are sent to the e-mail addresses of each of the convicts.

The total duration of the 5 module course is 36 hours, at the end of which the convicts will receive certificates. Each module of the course contains a practical video, at the end of each module – the final test. The final result consists of the results of test tasks for all modules. According to the program, convicts must master practical skills in the following office programs: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Power Point, Goggle account and Microsoft Teams.

"In the 21st century, the computer has become so firmly established in life that without computer skills, you can't get any more or less prestigious job now. At the same time, while in prison, convicts begin to lose valuable professional skills. Therefore, we try in every possible way to create conditions for learning and development. Thanks to the courses, convicts who have previously dealt with a computer will be able to resume their memory, while others will learn how to use it from scratch. We hope that in the future, after their release, some of them will find work related to this particular direction",- the head of the educational department of the Department of the Penal System for the North Kazakhstan Region Zhanna Shakirzhanova notes.

Obtaining professional skills in the conditions of institutions of the penitentiary system changes the social status of the convict, carries out a positive transformation of his personality, which contributes to the natural integration of the convict into society. Thanks to the opportunity to get an education, the educational function of institutions of the penal system is revealed more deeply. Having professional skills allows a person to embark on the path of correction and find his place in society after liberation.
