For many years now, employees of the Department of Civil Defense and subordinate institutions have not ignored their veterans, home front workers and widows. With grocery bags, flowers and words of sincere gratitude on the eve of the 77th anniversary of the celebration of the Great Victory, the staff of the DIS for North Kazakhstan Region went to the veterans' place of residence to congratulate them personally and express gratitude to people whose exploits and merits cause pride. In total, the staff congratulated more than 60 veterans, home front workers, widows and pensioners of the penal system.
Leonid Yakovlev, who turned 94 in January this year, is considered the oldest. The life of Leonid Yakovlev, a veteran of the Penal Enforcement System, was not easy and difficult. As a thirteen-year-old boy, he met the Great Patriotic War. He has passed a long labor path. In 1950 he graduated from the Novosibirsk Military Infantry School, and later from the Omsk Automobile Institute. In 1954, he was a platoon commander in exercises against nuclear weapons testing, which is associated with a special risk. From 1966 to 1972 — Deputy Commander of the internal Troops. From 1972 to 1984, he worked in the correctional labor colony of the city of Petropavlovsk in the North Kazakhstan region, now the republican state institution "Institution ES-164/3". He started as the head of the detachment, completed his service as a duty assistant to the head of the colony.
He enjoyed great respect and authority among the personnel.
Veterans warmly welcomed the guests, told how they defended their Homeland, what joy they experienced when they heard the long-awaited word "Victory!". Despite their venerable age, veterans remember the war — everything down to the smallest detail, they remember this difficult time with tears in their eyes. At the end of the meeting, the employees sincerely thanked the veterans for their labor exploits, wished them good health, longevity, good spirits, peace of mind and long life, and also presented them with memorable gifts and food packages.
