In North Kazakhstan Region a Probation Service Officer Receives a State Award

The penal system of Kazakhstan has many examples of courage and devotion to duty. One of them is the story of Senior Inspector of the Akkayin District Probation Service сaptain of Justice Darkhan Bekbulatov, whose decisive actions helped prevent a tragedy and save lives.

For his heroism, Darkhan Bekbulatov was awarded the state medal “For Military Valor”, which was presented to him on behalf of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Yerzhan Sadenov.

The incident occurred on June 9, 2025, at around 3 a.m. in the village of Smirnovo, Akkayin District. While at home, Captain Bekbulatov heard sounds resembling gunshots and, upon stepping outside, noticed thick smoke. Without hesitation, he rushed toward the source and saw that a bathhouse attached to a residential house was on fire, with the flames already spreading to the main building.

The probation officer immediately reported the fire to the emergency dispatch service and then began to act independently: he woke up the residents — a woman, her partner, and their two minor children — and organized their evacuation. Before firefighters arrived, he worked to contain the fire using improvised means and prevented bystanders from approaching the dangerous area.

Thanks to Captain Bekbulatov’s timely and selfless actions, all members of the family were rescued, and material damage was minimized. The arriving fire brigade extinguished the blaze. According to preliminary findings, the fire was caused by a violation of fire safety rules when installing a heating stove.

The rescued family expressed their deep gratitude to their savior for his courage, determination, and compassion.

The Medal “For Military Valor” is awarded to military personnel, law enforcement officers, and other citizens for acts of courage, selflessness, and bravery in the line of duty — including saving lives, protecting public order, and ensuring national security.

Darkhan Bekbulatov’s deed is a vivid example of service to society and a reminder that the readiness to help others remains a core value of the penal system’s personnel. His example inspires colleagues and proves that the title of officer is not just a profession but a calling.
