A vibrant cultural event — an aitys — was held at Institution №48, dedicated to the 180th anniversary of the great Kazakh poet and philosopher Abai Kunanbaev.

The stage brought together talented aitys performers from the North Kazakhstan region — Zhumabek Rakhimov and Dias Ayagan. Representing the institution, one of the inmates, Damir, took part in the poetic contest. Prior to his conviction, Damir had been actively engaged in the art of aitys, and his performance served not only as a tribute to the national heritage but also as a powerful example of how culture and creativity can help preserve inner strength and a desire for self-improvement.

The contestants were evaluated by a respected panel of judges: Zharkyn Zhuparkhan, a prizewinner of national and international aitys competitions; Serikbai Suleimenov, deputy head of the regional sports center; Seken Gabdollauy, a veteran of the penal system; and Zhanat Mukhametzhanov, head of the regional branch of the international society “Qazaq Tili.”

Honored guests of the event included representatives from the Department of Religious Affairs, the S. Mukanov Regional Universal Scientific Library, the "Abylai Khan Residence" museum complex, religious organizations, veterans of the penal system, and inmates currently serving their sentences.

The aitys unfolded in several rounds, each becoming a true celebration of words, intellect, and national spirit. All participants demonstrated a high level of skill, sincerity, and deep respect for Abai's legacy.

At the conclusion of the event, letters of appreciation were presented to guests and participants for their active involvement and fruitful cooperation. The aitys became not only a tribute to a great poet but also a powerful reminder of how spirituality and culture can unite people and inspire them toward goodness and growth.
